A Mom Awakening… But First, Love

We had a come to Jesus moment tonight… A mom awakening if you will… Tonight, one big sister at tennis lessons, another big sister rushed off to a neighborhood friend’s house to play, this FourNado was feeling left behind. She made it known too. A massive meltdown. Lots of sobbing tears (probably because of her lack of sleep and nap refusal today too), gasping for breath, and flat out frustration. I’ve witnessed a lot of these meltdowns. It’s exhausting. Why doesn’t she do this for anyone else?! It’s easy to just walk away and ignore them. I could redirect her attention. Do all the things “they” say to do and…

    Summer Sweet Corn Chowder

Harvest is near. Driving home every day we’re surrounded by cornfields and bean fields.  I can see them starting to change.  Corn stalks turning brown.  Bean leaves yellowing after a summer of repeated rain and midwestern sun beating down.  And my heart leaps a little bit because it means my favorite season is approaching. One of my favorite things about fall is food.  Okay, I lied.  I like food in every season.  But I LOVE fall food.  Crockpots. Instapots. Chili simmering on the stove.  Football season food.  The smells of cinnamon and nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice.  I’m drooling just typing this.   With summer is drawing to a close,…

End The Stigma… Depression and Anxiety in the Wake of Another Suicide

Depression is a terrible thing. It’s indescribable. It’s scary. It’s consuming. It’s random. It’s constant. It’s debilitating. It’s a mental health disorder. It affects 16 million adults in the US. It SHOULD be talked about. Anxiety is a son of a $%#*%. It’s overwhelming. It seems ridiculous at times. It causes symptoms that seem imaginary. It’s hard to understand if you don’t have it and harder to describe when you do. It’s a mental health disorder. It affects 40 million adults in the US. And it SHOULD be talked about. People who struggle with anxiety and depression may appear “fine”.  You may never see their visible symptoms.  But they may…

    Choco-Banana Gluten Free Granola Bites

When the monsters awake from their slumber, it’s always a guess what they’re going to want for breakfast.  They’re imdivually picky and equally hard to please so it takes effort to find something they all agree upon.  I was pleased they all love these yummy chocolate banana granola bites aka mini muffins!  They’re gluten free and no added sugar too! Not only do they make for a quick breakfast or to pop in their lunchbox, they’re a great after school snack and have a little extra protein and hidden fruit and veggie in them too! I hope your kiddos enjoy them as much as mine do!   Ingredients:   2 mashed…

Introducing The BEACHBAR- Snack Bar Elevated!

It’s HERE!  The MOTHERLOAD of Snack Bars! As a mother, as a fitness and lifestyle coach, as a nurse, as a busy woman, I could not be more excited for the launch of this amazing SNACK bar- the BEACHBAR, a new, delicious creation by Beachbody.  I had the opportunity to taste test the prototype in February at my leadership event and oh my… they are HEAVENLY! These are an elevated addition to a market of snack bars that offer little nutritional value and way too much sugar.  Fortunately these are quite a bit better.  I’m fairly picky about what we eat for snack bars and what we feed the kids…

25 Candy Free Easter Basket Ideas

Candy Free Ideas For Easter Baskets If you’re looking for some alternatives to loading your little ones’ Easter baskets with candy, you’ve come to the right place. Our oldest child got her braces put on last week.  She said the worst part is that she’s not going to be able to eat all of the Easter candy.  Insert Mom eyeroll here…  I have come to realize that we are pretty guilty of making the holidays about sweets and treats.  So I opted this year to go the “no candy” route.  Yes, I’m going to miss my Cadbury Mini Eggs.  I’m a little sad that a bowl of Starburst Jellybeans won’t…

    Nothing More to Give

It happens. It’s one of those days. When bedtimes hit and we just want to sink into the couch because we literally have nothing more to give. When one last toddler dictated command might just send us over the ledge. “Lord, just give me the patience” I whispered one too many times today. It starts with an awake-too-early morning. You know the one. When you anticipate the youngest sleeping in because she was up too late needing that last drink of water, but that last drink of water late last night had her up before the sun needing to “go potty right now”.  If she sees a wink of sunlight,…

    Mother Mother

Mother mother I have no words. My heart is heavy. The whole thing hurts. Another senseless tragedy Broken hearts A grieving society. We claim to want to make a change. We want to see it stop. We scream out loud for gun control. We continue to watch our children drop. We offer prayers, condolences. We rant on public forums. We blame the gun, society, the shooter, mental health, lawmakers, congress, lack of discipline.. There’s never a decorum. With guns we defend our politicians, celebrities, banks, jewelry stores, sporting events, and homes. But then we’re quick to offer a solution by a sign that says “Gun Free Zone”. There is…

Fitness For the Entire Family- Double Time Launch!

As a mommy, a pediatric nurse, and health and fitness coach, one of the biggest questions I am asked is, “How do I make this a healthier lifestyle for my family?”  With childhood obesity rates climbing to now affecting every 1 in 6 children, we as parents need to step up and get our kids active and healthy.  There are so many indoor distractions today- between phones, tv, games, miscellaneous electronics, that don’t keep our kids active.  I’m always looking for new ways to be creative with my kids, with family friendly recipes, and with fitness too, and to teach them the importance of living a healthier lifestyle. I am so excited…
