Healthy Organic Smoothie for Kids- What is Daily Sunshine?

As a mom and a pediatric nurse, want to hear something that freaks me out!?  Today, about one in five school-aged children (ages 6–19) has obesity.  The obesity rates in children has TRIPLED since the 70’s.  And our children are developing more preventable diseases now than ever before.  Their activity levels have declined and their obesity rates have increased.  (Read the latest CDC data HERE) And a big majority of that is due to nutrition.  We’re failing our children, momma’s and dad’s.  And something has to change.   Let’s be honest, as a momma, feeding my kids healthy options isn’t always the easiest.  Some days we count veggie chips as…

    Creamy Chicken Enchiladas (Healthier version)

Some nights you just need a comfort food, soul feeding, delicious pan of creamy enchiladas.  It’s been years since I made a pan of enchiladas and to say we were due was an understatement.  As we embark on a 3 week- super healthy fitness & nutrition regimen in prep for our Punta Cana vacation on April 23rd, this was a healthier “last hoorah” as a pre-gift to ourselves for committing to hard work for 3 weeks. Keep in mind, when you lead a healthy lifestyle- you should indulge.  You should have treat meals.  And you shouldn’t restrict yourself- that’s no fun.  Neither is dieting.  Eat to live.  Not the…

DestiNATION Fit Live Look Into Coaching: March 29th

If you would’ve told me three years ago I’d be earning my income from home as a coach, helping people achieve their fitness goals, improving my own health as well as my family’s and leading a healthier lifestyle, I wouldn’t have believed you.  This wasn’t the “chosen” path. Or a path that I personally would’ve chosen for myself. I heard about coaching, about becoming a coach, about inspiring others, about the opportunity to build a business from my kitchen table after my kids had gone to bed or early in the morning, and to be honest, I didn’t think it was something I could do.  I had self-doubt. I had…

Busy Women Building a Business: Now Hiring Coaches

I was never a person who set out to create some big grandiose plan. I’m simple. I love my family. I love taking care of others (hence my previous life as a bartender, then as a nurse). I was content. I just wanted to get in better shape. And find a balance between the wine and the leftover kids PBJ, handful of goldfish crackers, and my love for tacos. When I started to share a little bit about the struggles of a busy life, workouts, being a momma to 3 littles, and still taking time for myself, I found that I wanted to do something bigger. I started to want…

    Butternut Squash Chicken Stew (Crockpot)

Once that cold air hits and I’m in leggings, boots, and a scarf most days, my cooking shifts to stewy-type meals.   As a momma, I struggle with things that the kids will eat that are flavorful but don’t compromise our healthy eating too.   So I came up with this yummy butternut squash chicken stew and needless to say, everyone was happy.  Nothing like a bowl of hot soup on a cold fall evening! Ingredients:  1 Medium Butternut Squash, peeled and diced into 1 inch cubes 3 medium chicken breasts, thawed 2 cups organic vegetable (or chicken) broth 1 medium red pepper, diced 3/4 c frozen corn 1 tsp…

Strengthening Your Core- The Importance of Ab Workouts

With summer approaching, the question I am most frequently asked is “How do I get my abs back?” Well, I could tell you to do 1,000 crunches and drink a bunch of water and eat healthy but it’s a little more complicated than that!  And 1,000 crunches aren’t going to get it done anyway. In order to have “abs” you need to strengthen your core.  There’s a difference between core and abs. They work together but in order to have one, you need the other.   You need to sweat.  And by doing so, engaging more than just your ab muscles.  Core strengthening involves tightening up the muscles in your…

    Skinny Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita

Happy Cinco de Mayo!   This momma had a long day and was thirsty for something sweet but margaritas always give me reflux because of the sugar.  This turned out excellent.  Super fresh.  Not too sweet with a little kick!   The former bartender in me still gets the itch and I come up with some pretty tasty concoctions from time to time!   Hope you all enjoy!  Cheers!   Ingredients:  Fresh sliced strawberries Freshly cut limes Diced jalapeño Agave Nectar Premium Tequila (I use Patron Silver)  Crushed tortilla chips for the rim Directions:  In a shaker, add 1/4 c strawberries, 1 tsp agave nectar, 1/2 to 1 tsp diced…
