Happy Nurses Week

She wipes the butts

she cleans out the tubes

she answers the call button

she deals with the rude

She’ll tighten your gown

And give you a smirk

No buttcheeks left exposed

Then she’s right back to work

She wears all the hats

She dries all the tears

She holds all the hands

And calms all the fears

The burden she carries

She carries it well

She’ll come home and collapse

With stories she’ll never tell

She’s a hero in a cape

Though she’ll brush off the recognition

Because she’s here to serve

And does it with conviction

She interprets the orders

When no one can read them

She’ll sit with the patients

When no one can feed them

A quick sprint to the break room

Always eating on the run

Another call light dings,

Her work’s never done

The charting, the meds,

Vaccines, and IV’s

On her feet all day

Yet makes it look like a breeze

The NICU, the PICU,

ICU and ER

In clinic, peds, hospice,

All so different by far

But every last one will tell you

It’s for the love of the gig

Yep, it takes a special person

With a heart oh so big

But they’re tough and they’re proud,

Wiping a tear from each cheek

And a HUGE shout out to all of ‘em

A Happy Nurse’s Week!
