Healthier Air Fryer Donuts
You had me at “10 Minute Breakfast”!
My kiddos will sleep in, lounge on the couch for an hour, and then IMMEDIATELY decide they are STARVING and need to eat RIGHT NOW!!!
Quick, healthy breakfasts are totally our jam. However, they default to toaster waffles and would prefer pop-tarts or donuts where I’m more of a “made from scratch” sort of mom. Don’t get me wrong, we indulge every now and then, but if I can whip up a “healthier” version of a lot of things, I will.
Donuts are one of our favs in this house too. The greasy, gooey, chocolatey smothered, deep-fried, treats don’t last too long here. So I agreed to come up with a “healthier” option and tapped into my air fryer to help me out. Now, these aren’t a “made from scratch” but they do the trick! And I even caught my little middle child saying, “Mom… I think these are better than the ones from the store.”
Let me know what you think!
Ingredients:
1 package Annie’s Organic Biscuits
Olive or coconut oil cooking spray
2 tbsp organic cane sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 c organic powdered sugar
2-4 tbsp vanilla unsweetened almond or cashew milk
Air fryer
Directions:
Open and separate biscuits. With a pineapple corer (or paring knife) punch out holes in center (save these, you’ll be making “donut holes” after!). Spray donuts with cooking spray on both sides. Mix cane sugar and cinnamon together with a fork. Sprinkle donuts with cinnamon sugar mixture. Place in air fryer on “manual” at 350* for 8 minutes, flipping donuts halfway through.
In a separate bowl mix add powdered sugar and begin adding almond milk 1 tbsp at a time, stirring with a fork to get the consistency of a glaze. Drizzle over hot donuts.
Repeat process for donut holes, cooking at 350* on manual for 2 minutes. Can flip and cook another minute or two longer.
Enjoy!
Toppings our kiddos love:
A little peanut butter and a few mini chocolate chips.
Sprinkles.
A drizzle of chocolate syrup (we tend to buy this one).
Strawberry or raspberry jam.
