Do What You Love…
I walked in on my kids doing what they love the other day… watching some ridiculous YouTube video of someone adding various types of glitter to slime.
Meanwhile they have a room full of slime that they never touch!
But as we laughed about that together, Avery mentioned how cool that job would be- to literally make videos of slime and put them on YouTube.
A decade ago we would’ve rolled our eyes and moved on… but today it’s not so far fetched to make a killing making ridiculous YouTube videos – that one kid that opens birthday presents made millions last year.
As parents we are “supposed” to say things like, go to college, go to grad school, build a successful career, etc. I’ll probably get a lot of hate for saying this- but if they decide that’s not their path, they need to know there are other options, and that it’s okay to choose a “non-traditional” route.
My goals were initially college: psych major, be a psychologist… then that changed to bartending after some serious burnout. I felt like a failure and struggled with that for years…
Then I pursued nursing, received a college degree, had a great career as a nurse, only to realize how much I wanted to be home with my kids while they were little. Then I was told I was “wasting” my degree by staying home.
Now this mother says home with them and has built a successful online business supporting other women with creating healthier habits through fitness and nutrition… and I freaking love that I get to call this my job.
Do. What. You. Love.
At dinner the other night over conversations about what they want to be when they grow up… we said that college is cool, so is trade school, so is being an online coach, or a foodie blogger, or if being a slime YouTuber sparks your passion, be the best damn slime YouTuber you can be. Then reassured them that these parents will guide, support, and encourage them to the best of our abilities.
If you would’ve told me a decade ago I would’ve built a multi six figure business from my phone and laptop, a WiFi signal, and a vision I wasn’t prepared to give up on, I would’ve rolled my eyes. But there are some pretty incredible opportunities to build success in our ever changing world, especially if you’re willing to do the work.
Regardless of what my girls choose to pursue, one thing I’ve instilled in them is that it feels pretty amazing when you pursue something you love, and I’ll be their biggest supporter in whatever that is.
If adding another stream of income is something you’ve wanted to pursue, building a community of support for other women, improving your own health and fitness journey, or if you’ve been watching for a while and are ready to take the leap, my New Coach Mentorship for May is now open.
